Solidus Verify vs. Persona: matching the DX bar, adding portability

Persona is the developer-experience benchmark in this category, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. We have no named customer. Persona has real crypto and fintech customers, Brex, OpenSea, Robinhood, and we have zero. If you need a KYC vendor with a proven track record this quarter, that's a point in their favor, not ours.

Where Persona wins outright

Say this plainly, not grudgingly: Persona's docs, sandbox, and no-code Flows workflow builder are best-in-class. A compliance team can reshape verification logic there without opening a pull request: we have nothing comparable. Persona raised at a $1.5B valuation in 2021 and has years of real runway behind it. Their starter pricing is published and live on their site today; ours isn't published yet. None of that is close, and a developer evaluating both should weigh it accordingly.

The developer-experience row, honestly incomplete right now

Solidus Verify Persona
Quickstart time Not yet measured against a shipped, timed benchmark Published, sub-5-minute integration path
First-tier pricing Not yet published Published starter tier, live today

We're not filling that first cell with an estimate. Solidus Verify's quickstart is being refreshed to genuinely hit the same five-minute bar Persona already clears, and until that refresh ships and gets timed for real, any number we put here would be a guess dressed up as a proof point. The honest claim today is narrower: we're building toward DX parity with Persona, not claiming we've reached it.

The thing Persona structurally can't do

Persona has no seat at the standards table this runs on. In their own competitive brief, the gap is stated plainly: no W3C DID/VC support, no DIF participation, no OID4VCI/VP voice. Solidus is a DIF Associate Member, and did:solidus is registered in the W3C DID Method Registry: one line, and the registration is checkable directly against the W3C DID Extensions repository. (Full context on the protocol lives at solidus.network, we won't expand it here.)

That standards seat isn't decorative. It's the plumbing behind the actual product difference: Solidus issues the user a W3C Verifiable Credential they hold and can present again, versus Persona's verification result, which is siloed to Persona's own platform.

Sell that as convenience and cost, not as a compliance shortcut: a reused credential doesn't discharge anyone's own regulatory KYC obligation, it just means the second relying party isn't paying full price to re-run a check the first one already did. Modeled against the cost-per-verification math, roughly $5.00 for the first check, $0.05 for each re-presentation, against Persona's ~$1.50-per-check list price, math shown, reuse pays back once a credential clears roughly n≈2.4 verifications. That's a modeled protocol-floor number, not a billed price; Solidus is more expensive than Persona on the very first check.

Who should pick which, today

If you need volume, self-serve KYC integration now, with a proven sandbox, published pricing, and real reference customers, Persona is the correct choice, full stop. We're not there on developer experience yet. We're honest about the gap, and we're building to close it, not claiming we already have.
